I’m always interested in new ways to display weather and climate data.  Here are a couple of recent web sites that allow you zoom to different spatial scales and choose from a lot of different variables.

Geo Awesomeness described a new weather mapping site called Ventusky.com which allows you to look at many different variables including animated winds.  You can read about it at https://geoawesomeness.com/every-weather-forecast-map-look-like/ or visit directly at https://www.ventusky.com/?p=33.8;-83.4;4&l=temperature.

The Space Science and Engineering Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (my alma mater) has a new web site and apps called RealEarth which allow you to combine satellite imagery with radar and other variables.  You can see the site at https://realearth.ssec.wisc.edu/.

Here’s what they say about the site, with links to the apps:

Just released IOS and Android SSEC Realearth apps have been released:

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details…

RealEarth provides access to real-time imagery and data products hosted by the University of Wisconsin – Madison Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) and others. These products include global and regional remotely sensed atmospheric, terrestrial, and oceanographic imagery, observations of local meteorological parameters and short-range predictions of future conditions.

– Select products to display by category, name, and time
– Pan and zoom map interface dynamically
– Display current location on map
– Adjust transparency and composite multiple layers
– Animate by relative or absolute time steps
– Save custom favorites
