Reports on impacts of recent rains continue to come in, both from the flood event on October 1-5 in South Carolina and surrounding areas, and in other parts of the Southeast.

The Packer provided a story describing the significant impacts of the heavy rains on vegetable production in South and North Carolina and Virginia.  In some places production of bell peppers, squash, cucumbers and green beans was nearly destroyed by the floods.  Even plants that survived the water may have quality issues.   Harvesting of peaches was completed but growers expect there may be adverse impacts on the trees from the water.  North Carolina, which received less rain, expects that most of their sweet potatoes have not been affected by the rain.

In Georgia, Rome Ethredge posted a couple of stories in Seminole Crop E News about how rains in southwest Georgia have impacted peanuts and cotton.  WTVY did a story on some of the impacts, and Rome provides a link to the video and a transcript here.

Rome also posted some aerial pictures showing the impacts of a 3-inch rain on peanuts that had been dug and were out in the field.  You can see them at https://seminolecropnews.wordpress.com/2015/10/09/rain-delay/.  He noted that harvesting peanuts has been delayed in some places by two weeks due to the rainy conditions.
