Our first workshop of the year, a pruning workshop, will be held on Thursday, February 8th from 10 AM – 3:00 PM.

The workshop will be held at Cartecay Vineyards (5704 Clear Creek Rd, Ellijay, GA 30536), and we extend our appreciation in advance to Larry Lykins and his crew for hosting this workshop.

We will cover standard training/pruning practices (cordon/spur; head/cane) in vines trained to both low- and high-wire systems. We will also present research results from pruning/trellising experiments that our UGA Viticulture Team conducted last season. Nathan Eason, White County ANR Extension Agent, and UGA viticulture graduate student, Rachael White, will be presenting research results.  Part of this workshop will be indoors (in the tasting barn), and part will be outdoors in the vineyard to demonstrate pruning strategies.  Please check the weather as this date approaches and dress appropriately and bring your hand pruners if you own a pair.

Lunch will be from 12:00 – 1:00, and will be provided at a cost of $5 per person.  However, registrants have the option to bring their own lunch or go elsewhere in the area to buy their own lunch.

Please contact Eddie Ayers (eayers@uga.edu), Gilmer and Fannin Counties ANR Extension Agent and workshop co-coordinator, to register for this workshop.  Let he or I (vitis@uga.edu) know if you have questions.

PLEASE REGISTER BY MONDAY, FEBRUARY 5TH if you plan to attend.

See y’all there.
