I am sure that everyone has heard the saying, “when life gives you lemons make lemonade!”  We now have a new one, “when god sends you excessive rain throw out some decoys!”  Just make sure that they are in season!  This picture is proof that as a farmer you have to be ready for anything and have a good sense of humor.

It’s hard to tell from the picture but the decoys have actually attracted three Canadian Geese.  Maybe this monsoon that we are enduring will be a blessing in disguise and lead to a good waterfowl hunt right around Christmas.

On a more serious note these rains are causing problems for small grains and other crops in our area.  Leaching or runoff of fertilizers and lost herbicides are the first thing that come to mind.  We will need to assess each fields potential once the waters subside to decide how to proceed through the remainder of the season.
