With Hurricane Irma on it’s way many of us are preparing ourselves for dangerous weather. As you look at your home and family preparedness you also need to think about your farm. Thing about how you would care for livestock and daily farm chores in the event of extended power outages. Make sure equipment is full of fuel and that you have an ample amount of feed and cover for your animals. Those that run row crop operations cannot do anything to protect their fields, but they should be mindful of what they keep under the barn. Secure any loose objects that can be carried by strong winds. Make sure supplies are protected from flooding or rain.

You can check out our Extension Emergency Preparedness Webpage for more details: https://extension.uga.edu/topic-areas/timely-topics/emergencies.html

I pray that all remain safe and that we get very little damage during this weather event.
