Below is a brief update on fall vegetable diseases from Dr. Bhabesh Dutta (Extension Vegetable Pathologist, UGA, Tifton)

Cucumber downy mildew has been reported from few counties in GA in Fall watermelon and cucumbers. This disease can cause severe defoliation and vine decline resulting in significant yield loss. As a preventative spray, growers can tank mix Orondis or Ranman or Previcur Flex with Bravo or Mancozeb. Powdery mildew and anthracnose can also be a problem for Fall cucurbit crops. Please follow fungicide UGA recommended fungicide spray guides for these diseases. Growers who are preparing to grow bell peppers in Fall, please be sure to use Bacterial leaf spot resistant variety. X10R is the resistant variety of bell pepper we recommend.

If you have additional questions about diseases on vegetable crops please contact your local county Extension Agent. Thank you.
