News, events, and happenings in Colquitt County agriculture.

This week numerous cases of powdery mildew have been confirmed in surrounding counties on watermelon. I would suggest our watermelon growers to look for the powdery mildew symptoms in

their fields and start applying a protective spray.

Also, southern corn rust was detected yesterday from the Seminole County, GA on field corn. The same pathogen can cause rust on sweet corn and can result in economic losses.

Dr. Bhabesh Dutta  recommends our sweet corn growers to spray protectively following fungicides:

Quilt Xcel (Azoxystrobin+Propiconazole)

Stratego YLD (Prothioconazole+Trifloxystrobin)
