A new study on the impacts of providing artificial shade for cattle in Florida was recently completed by University of Florida researchers and shows that cattle that are given access to artificial shade in the hottest part of the year experience significantly more gain in weight that cattle that are not provided shade. Most previous studies of this effect have been done in the Midwest. The results are being published now to provide producers time to think about how to prepare for next summer’s hot conditions.  You can read a short article on the study at the Panhandle e-News at https://nwdistrict.ifas.ufl.edu/phag/2017/12/01/the-impact-of-shade-on-cattle-performance-in-the-florida-panhandle/.
