Business Insider has a very good article describing the reason why this Atlantic tropical season has been so active and what it might mean for the rest of this season.  The story looks at the lack of wind shear aloft which can “blow the top off” of developing storms, and the unusually warm ocean water this year which has provided extra energy and moisture to the developing storms. The season is just over half over and we are watching the Gulf of Mexico region now for two more potential systems to develop, although they are more likely to bring heavy rain rather than strong winds to Florida. But since they are still recovering from Hurricane Irma, that will still be a blow to folks down there.  You can read the article at https://www.businessinsider.com/hurricane-season-2017-maria-irma-harvey-2017-9.
