According to an article this week in AgWeb, “While the corn yields dropped in the Midwest, southern States are seeing big gains in yields. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said this corn crop could potentially be the third-largest on record. When you look at the numbers, the southern States seem to be shining this year.”

The weather we’ve had this year, with relatively cool temperatures and generous rains, has done wonders for corn yield in the Southeast. They note that Alabama’s yield is up by 45 bushels per acre, the highest in the region, but the other states have also seen big increases. Because less acres were planted in corn this year, the total harvest will be slightly less than last year. You can read more here.
