While floods and droughts are causing problems for farmers in the US, producers in other parts of the world are having their own difficulties dealing with the weather. Southern Europe is in the middle of a severe drought which is reducing the production of cereal grains and causing heat stress problems for cattle, according to Reuters here. Olives and nuts are also suffering from the heat and lack of rain. AgWeb also had an article discussing this.
On the other end of the scale, Bloomberg also noted here that downpours in northern Germany are causing problems for high-protein wheat production. The article noted that “Rains at this time in the season can lower protein levels and delay harvesting, which typically picks up from mid-July and continues through August.”
