The Capital Weather Gang posted a story about the intense heat that is coming to the Southwest US next week, with temperatures 12-15 degrees above normal, which will be close to setting records. In Phoenix, temperatures are expected to reach 110-120 degrees. The hottest temperature ever at Phoenix Sky Harbor airport was 122 on June 26, 1990. Fortunately for us in the Southeast, the ridge of high pressure that is contributing to the heat wave is combined with a trough of lower pressure here, which could lead to slightly cooler than usual temperatures during that event.
