When someone says to me that the climate is always changing, I inwardly roll my eyes and agree with them that climate has definitely changed over time and is still changing due to natural variability like El Niño (short-term) and orbital variations that cause ice ages (long-term).  Climatologists have been studying these changes for a long time.

But that does not mean that there are no human causes of changes in climate.  We see it clearly in urban heat islands and desertification due to land use changes.  We also see it happening due to increases in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere which are clearly and scientifically linked to the burning of fossil fuels.  Here is a list of ten things that climatologists know about climate science: https://mentalfloss.com/article/93365/10-facts-about-being-climate-scientist-climate-scientists.

It’s important to keep in mind that not everyone who calls themselves a “climate scientist” really has a background in climatology, so keep that in mind when you look at alternative views on climate change.  Just because you have a degree in physics, for example, does not make you an expert in other fields like climatology (and I have a degree in physics too, but that does not make me an expert in quantum mechanics).
