The hard freeze the last two nights has had significant consequences for Georgia’s fruit crops.  The Packer has done a good job of pulling together an overview of some of the consequences of the bitter temperatures on strawberries, peaches and blueberries.  Fortunately, the Vidalia onion crop does not appear to be affected.  You can read their story here.  Of course, more details and more impacts will be identified later once producers have the chance to see how the crops handled the cold weather.

In Washington DC, the cold temperatures decimated the blooming of the Yoshin0 cherry trees.  Temperatures hit 24 F and stayed there for five hours, destroying many blooms at their most critical time.  The displays of the showy trees are expected to be muted this year, although other varieties that bloom later in the season were probably not affected.  You can read about this in the WunderBlog here.
