In the latest edition of “Beyond the Data”, Deke Arndt of NOAA discusses the warmth that enveloped the entire US in March 2016.  His study shows that this is the first time since records began in 1895 that every single climate division in the US, including Alaska, reported temperatures in the “warmer than normal” category.  This means that each division was in the top third of all years for temperature.  Normally only parts of the US are in that category, with atmospheric patterns causing some areas to be warm while others are cold.
