Rome Ethredge reported in his blog today that they are starting to think about planting corn in southwest Georgia in areas where the soil is not too wet.  Generally corn can be planted when the 2 inch soil temperature is consistently at 55 F or higher with no cold spell expected. Soil temperatures of 60 F are even better for getting things going.

In Georgia you can get soil temperature maps at the Georgia Weather Network (also known as GAEMN) at https://www.georgiaweather.net/index.php?content=tr&variable=XS.  The Florida weather network, FAWN, reports 4 inch soil temperatures at  https://fawn.ifas.ufl.edu/data/latest_observations.php.  North Carolina also has 10 cm (4 inch) soil temperature data in their CRONOS system at https://climate.ncsu.edu/map/.  Alabama has 4 inch soil temperature data at https://www.awis.com/mesonet/.
