The official start to the Atlantic hurricane season is June 1.  As we saw this year with Tropical Storm Ana, sometimes the storms come even before the official season begins.  In preparation for June 1, the National Weather Service is holding Hurricane Preparedness Week May 24-30.  You can read about it at https://www.nhc.noaa.gov/prepare/.  The week will feature a series of spotlights on various aspects of the storms:

Sunday: Overview

Monday: Storm Surge

Tuesday: Winds

Wednesday: Inland Flooding

Thursday: Forecast Process

Friday: Get a Plan!

Saturday: Take Action

Even in an El Nino year, when the total number of storms is expected to be less than usual, it only takes one hurricane hitting a vulnerable spot to cause tremendous damage.  If you live anywhere in the Southeast or up the East Coast, be prepared!
