Fusarium Wilt is a serious soil borne disease of watermelon, which can cause extreme yield losses where it is prevalent. As of right now, there is no “silver bullet” for management of this disease, so new innovative options are being put to the test. Fumigation techniques using methods to apply fumigants near the shoulder of the bed may extend the treated area and inhibit roots coming in contact with the pathogen. We will be evaluating this application method to provide efficacy data at this point. With limited land rotation from this disease, which theoretically is a seven year rotation, suppressing the growth of the pathogen would be beneficial to say the least.
